Newbery questions: Is the newbery medal awarded to adults only, or kids too? Do you have to be a citizen?
I can't find the answers easily, and my computer keeps getting over heated, so this may be more simple. Is the newbery medal awarded to adults only, or kids too? Must you be a resident or citizen of the US to win a newbery? How does the newbery commitee decide wat book will get the newbery medal?
Thanks, exspecially if you answered all of the questions!
There is no age restriction, but it is limited to American residents. For instance, Hugh Lofting had been living in America a number of years when he won it as had a number of other British born authors.
The books are basically nominated by the American Library Association members, who are mostly librarians, but not all librarians. They basically pick the books they think are well written that year.
